Google is adding several new features to Gemini Notebook, making the AI-powered tool more useful for students, researchers and anyone who wants to organise and understand information more easily. The latest update includes voice chat, lecture recording, new quiz formats, interactive learning overviews and Short Video Overviews in more than 80 languages.
Google says these features will roll out to the web and mobile apps over the coming weeks. The company is also offering eligible college students free access to its AI plans for one year.
Gemini Notebook Gets Audio Recording
One of the most useful new features is an audio recorder for the Gemini Notebook Android and iOS apps. The feature is designed to help users record lectures, discussions and personal thoughts directly into their notebooks.
After recording, the audio will appear alongside other notebook sources. Users can edit the recording, cite it and use its information while chatting with Gemini.
For students, this could make it easier to keep important lecture information organised and use it later for revision.
Voice Chat Comes to Gemini Notebook
Google is also introducing voice chat for Gemini Notebook on mobile. The feature will support nearly 100 languages and can answer questions using information from the user’s notebook sources.
Gemini can also provide step-by-step explanations based on the available material. Users can interrupt Gemini while it is speaking, making the interaction more conversational.
Voice chat is initially rolling out to Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and above. Google says it will later become available to Google AI Pro subscribers and other users.
New Interactive Learning Overviews
The update also brings interactive learning overviews to the Reports section. These can combine summaries with Studio content such as infographics, quizzes and flashcards.
This gives users more ways to study a topic instead of simply reading a text summary. Students can use these tools to review lessons and make their preparation more interactive.
Gemini Notebook Adds More Quiz Types
Google is expanding the quiz options available in Gemini Notebook. Users can now create different question formats, including:
- Short-answer questions
- Multiple-choice questions
- Multiple-select questions
- Fill-in-the-blank questions
Users can also check their quiz and flashcard performance through notebook chat. This can help identify areas that need more revision.
Google is also adding the option to modify questions in quizzes and flashcards, allowing users to customise their study material.
Short Video Overviews Expand to 80+ Languages
Another notable change is the expansion of Short Video Overviews to more than 80 languages.
Gemini Notebook can create videos of around 60 seconds with narration and educational animations. These videos can explain topics such as formulas, diagrams and scientific concepts in a visual and easier-to-follow format.
Google also says users can share these videos with classmates and others.
Free Google AI Plans for Students
Google is also offering eligible college students special AI plan benefits. Students in the US can claim Google AI Pro free for 12 months, while eligible students in more than 140 other markets can receive Google AI Plus free for one year.
Google AI Pro normally costs $19.99 per month and provides four times higher Gemini Notebook usage limits. Google AI Plus offers twice the standard usage limits.
